MHPM Project Managers International Inc. wins Hamdan bin Mohammed Award for Innovation in Project Management

December 13, 2019

MHPM Project Managers International Inc. / Colliers Project Leaders, a leading building and infrastructure project delivery solution provider, is proud to announce that it has won a prestigious 2019 Hamdan bin Mohammed Award.

MHPM won second place in the Innovative Organization in Project Management category, accomplished by its innovative and collaborative approach to project delivery for the new Central Library in Calgary. A combination of complex planning, risk management and community engagement enabled the new library to be delivered on time and $10M under budget while incorporating innovations to create a certified, sustainable LEED-Gold building.

The Hamdan bin Mohammed Award for Innovation in Project Management was launched in 2015 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. The aim of the Award is to encourage and promote innovation and culture in project management. It includes 4 categories celebrating individuals, teams, organizations and academia, and offers 8 awards recognizing the successes of participants.

Completed in November 2018, Calgary’s new Central Library is a 240,000 sq. ft. facility that has earned considerable international recognition, including being named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Greatest Places of 2019; winning the 2019 AIA/ALA Library Building Award, which honours the best in library architecture and design; and receiving the 2019 SEGD Global Design Awards, receiving the Merit Award for Wayfinding.

Featuring flexible and interactive spaces for all ages, the library is home to 450,000 books and a host of programmatic activities. The primary innovation employed by MHPM was an Integrated Project Team (IPT) approach to cultivate a collaborative environment ripe with innovation. Additional innovative approaches included modelling all possible disruption on BIM, using scanner and settlement monitors to gauge undesired settlement, and building the library around an active Light Rail Transit (LRT) line – with the LRT tunnel successfully encapsulated over the course of one weekend.

“We are honoured to receive this award”, said Yamin Shihab, Vice President, GCC, MHPM. “On behalf of our global Colliers organization, I would like to thank the Crown Prince of Dubai and the entire Award organization for this recognition.”
