Providing clean and safe drinking water.
The culmination of a 25-year process, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation (MBQFN) has a reliable source for clean, safe drinking water. The new water treatment plant and distribution system replaces the individual contaminated wells and addresses the shortage problems that the majority of reserve households experienced.
Our team understood how critical this infrastructure project was to the community's overall health. Leading this project from the first stages of tendering to the commissioning of the plant, our priority was to drive construction performance and complete the project on time. Although tender produced higher bids than budgeted, value engineering and negotiations with the low bidder yielded a contract value that was awarded with minimal disruption to the project schedule.
The project was completed in 2017 and the new water treatment plant lifted the long-standing water advisory for the residents of the MBQFN. The new facility is a source of clean and safe drinking water for everyone on the reserve.
