“mâmawêyatitân,” Cree for “Let’s all be together.”

The mâmawêyatitân centre in Regina, SK, has been recognized in Canadian Architect magazine. The transformational project supports Indigenous and other groups within and beyond its North Central location.

The mâmawêyatitân centre, completed in 2017, is a high school, daycare, community centre, library, and satellite police station. The centre aims to “embody Indigenous principles in its materiality, abstracting the Prairie locale’s wide horizons in its opaque sky-blue glass and Tyndall-stone base.”

The versatility of programming in the multifunctional facility requires different groups to access certain facilities at different, or in some instances, the same time. Although logistical coordination and research were required upfront, this functionality is what helps to reinforce the centre’s namesake.
