Commissioning of an acute care hospital with a progressive energy policy.

The Westerly Hospital is a non-profit 125-bed acute care hospital. The hospital’s 26,000 square foot/four-story facility was originally constructed in 1925 and had undergone a number of major renovations and expansions since the early 1960s. The Hospital has in place a progressive environmental and energy policy to help guide the operations of its facilities. They are committed to reducing their energy usage, reducing the Hospital’s energy costs, and operating their facilities in a sustainable manner.

Colliers Project Leaders provided comprehensive retro-commissioning services for the Hospital as part of its involvement in a retro-commissioning initiative program sponsored by a local utility company. Colliers Project Leaders utilized a three-phased assessment process to systematically review the major energy-consuming equipment and systems within the Hospital facility. Each of the phases included an in-depth analysis and investigation of energy conservation opportunities identified within the Hospital’s chiller plant and chilled water system, kitchen area systems, hydronic hot water pumping systems, air handling units, fan coil units, and general exhaust fans. At the conclusion of each phase, our team provided the Hospital with a detailed master list of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) improvements including implementation costs and estimated savings.
